WATER
Earth looks blue from sky that's why its also called as a Blue Planet. Still water scarcity is a global threat. One can wonder how it could be if 70% of Earth's crust is covered with water. About 97.5% of all the water present on earth is in Oceans which is salt walter and unsuitable for human consumption. Remaining 2-3% is fresh water which is suitable for us. It looks scarce in percentage but it is more scarcer than it seems. About 70% of all fresh water is present in the form of Ice caps in north and south poles and its unavailable for humans. And most of the remaining is present in the form of ground water and moisture. It is not economically feasible to extract this water.
Water is finite in this planet . And we are facing insufficiency of water because we are making it unsuitable after the use.
The water which we are using is going in sewage which connects the river. We are not only polluting the water which is supplied to us but also polluting rivers by joining sewers and waste from chemical factories into rivers. Some rivers are being polluted and some are being dried up.
Water crises is man-made. 4 lakes in Tamil Nadu, India have dried up. Chennai is the city which affected most by this in summer. In India, 2 lakhs per year die every year by consuming contaminated water. Keeping in mind that India is the wettest place in the world . It receives about 1500 mm annual rainfall . Half year faces insufficient supply of water and and other half faces flood because of heavy rainfalls. This is nothing but our failure to save water. Firstly we have disturbed the natural cycle by deforestation and industrialization without proper planning.
Rain water which should go in ground is dropping on concrete land then in drain which connects again sewerage .
Secondly, we don't have any proper planning to store the water. Jaisalmer in Rajasthan is considerable because it gets only 200mm annual rainfall every year and still this desert town could manage enough water for its use.
With increase in population , demand of water is also increasing but Instead of meeting the demand of water , we should make proper plan to restart and maintain the natural cycle.
